The Challenge
Bob C.’s attic in Phoenix had gaps in the existing insulation coverage. He wanted to improve the insulation to help keep his home more comfortable.
The Solution
The Desert Attic Solutions team added blown-in insulation, creating a more consistent layer of coverage across the attic floor.
The Result
The before-and-after photos show the change from exposed areas and uneven coverage to a well-covered attic. This insulation upgrade helps reduce heat transfer between the attic and the living space, supporting better indoor comfort.
The Problem: Uneven Temperatures and Air Leakage
Tom in Phoenix contacted Desert Attic Solutions because the second floor of his home was difficult to keep cool and comfortable. With the HVAC system working harder to maintain the desired temperature.
The Inspection: Finding Hidden Gaps in the Attic
Our team inspected Tom’s attic and discovered several unsealed gaps and openings around the wooden framing. Although these spaces may appear small, they can allow conditioned air to escape into the attic while hot, dusty attic air enters the living space.
The Solution: Targeted Attic Air Sealing
Our team focused specifically on the areas contributing to the problem. We carefully sealed the visible gaps and joints around the attic framing using expanding spray foam.
This targeted air-sealing work helps:
-
Reduce unwanted air leakage
-
Keep conditioned air inside the home
-
Prevent hot, dusty attic air from entering the living space
-
Reduce strain on the HVAC system
-
Improve comfort and energy efficiency
The Result: A Tighter, More Efficient Home
With the attic gaps properly sealed, Tom’s home now has a stronger air barrier between the living area and the attic. This improvement will help maintain more consistent indoor temperatures and allow the HVAC system to operate more efficiently.
Heidi S. in Phoenix contacted us after noticing one of her bedrooms was dangerously hotter than the rest of the house. Unable to cool the room down during the brutal summer heat, she originally sought out two other local insulation companies. Both gave her massive, overpriced quotes that far exceeded her budget, leaving her feeling stuck and frustrated.
Adam came out to perform a thorough, honest inspection of her attic and ductwork. Unlike the previous companies, Adam focused strictly on diagnosing her specific problem area. Adam discovered two major issues:
- Destroyed Ductwork: The duct line running to the hot bedroom was made of flexible ducting that was poorly installed, full of unnecessary bends, and suffered from a major split in the line that was leaking cold air into the attic.
- Zero Insulation: The attic space directly above that specific bedroom was completely uninsulated, allowing the Phoenix sun to bake the room from above.
Adam gave her a fair, transparent quote that fit comfortably within her price range by focusing only on what she actually needed. Our targeted solution included:
- Ductwork Overhaul: Kevin and Adam replaced the damaged flex duct, straightened out the run, and eliminated the unnecessary turns. This streamlined airflow and completely removed the need for a split in the line.
- Advanced Insulation: Kevin encapsulated and insulated the new duct line using high-quality TruSoft Cellulose.
- R-49 Attic Insulation: Kevin and Adam brought the uninsulated attic space above her bedroom up to an R-49 standard to block out the desert heat.
- The Finishing Touch: We replaced her old, worn-out vent cover with a clean, brand-new one to improve both airflow and appearance.
One week after completing the job, the homeowner called us back with fantastic news. Her bedroom is now perfectly comfortable and holds the exact same cool temperature as the rest of the house. She was thrilled with our affordable pricing, honest communication, and the immediate difference in her home's comfort.
Lynn L. is a wonderful single older woman who lives by herself in her 2,000 sq ft home here in Phoenix. Like many older homes in the Valley, her attic had almost no insulation left, big empty voids, and zero air sealing — causing high cooling bills and uncomfortable hot spots in the house during our brutal summers.
Lynn specifically searched for a woman-owned insulation company and found us. She was happy to hear we could come out the same day to give her a quote. After reviewing her attic, we provided a very competitive proposal — one she said was better than the three other quotes she had received.
We went to work right away:
- Thoroughly air sealed the entire attic
- Filled all the large voids
- Installed TiteShell covers over all her recessed can lights
- Carefully marked all electrical fixtures with safety flags
- Blew in 14 inches of premium Trusoft cellulose insulation
This brought her attic up to the full Energy Star recommended R-49 level.
Lynn was extremely happy with the professionalism and care our team showed while working in her home. She now feels much more comfortable and confident that her home is properly protected against the Arizona heat.
